By air to Transylvania. You are spoiled for choice on this one.

We have three medium sized airports, and a smaller one, all connecting Transylvania to the rest of the world via major European hubs. Also in the surrounding area we have two big international airports: «Ferenc Liszt Airport» In Budapest and «Henri Coanda International Airport» in Bucharest and also a smaller one in Debrecen (Hungary) that offers good connections to Moscow and other European destinations.

Let’s start with the best choices:

1.“Avram Iancu” Cluj International Airport is the second airport in Romania in terms of passengers transported after  “Henri Coandă” Bucharest International Airport, and for 2019 estimates that it will register a traffic of 3 million passengers. It is located within the city limits so is easily reached by means on public transport, taxis and pre-booked transfers. The airport is located 8 km (5.0 mi) east of the city centre on the European route E576. The drive from the city centre takes about 20 minutes. CTP Cluj Napoca, the local public transport company, operates its Route No. 8 that connects the airport with the Mihai Viteazul Square in the City Center and trolleybus No. 5 to the Rail station.

Using this airport you can fly into Transylvania from anywhere in the world. As an example, you can fly from New-York using JFK or Newark International Airport, into Warsaw (Poland) and change the plane then arrive in Cluj-Napoca about an hour later. All this by using LOT Polish Airlines.

Cluj-Napoca has multiple daily flights to Bucharest (8/day), London (4/day) and Munich (twice daily) and daily flights to other German airports, Italy, Spain, France and Ciprus so getting in and out is easy.

2. Sibiu International Airport. It might be your greatest choice of airport if you want to visit Sibiu, Sighisoara, Brasov and southern Transylvania. This airport is situated in Southern Transylvania, 180 km south of Cluj-Napoca and 140 km west of Brasov so it is a good choice to cover any of these destinations.

Originally developed during WWII like the other ones, it has been modernized in the last few years and it really exploded in terms of passenger numbers and destinations. Nowadays you can easily fly in from seven German airports, Vienna, Madrid, London and Tel Aviv.

Getting from the airport to the city center or back to the airport couldn’t be easier that getting a bus, with lines 112, 116, 117 and 118 going past the airport. If you are using a train service to Sibiu, you have to leave your train at the main train station and catch the bus, or use one of our transfer services for more specific needs or if you have to get to one of the adjacent towns or villages.

3 . Targu Mures Airport ( Transilvania airport) has daily flights to Budapest and some flights to London and Germany …a small and convenient airport right in the middle of Transilvania..there are taxis and a shuttle for downtown but the best option is to book a private transfer
