Sibiu International Airport had its inauguration day in 1943, on a field of grass of roughly 170 hectares. The first flights were operated with Lockheed planes and were interconnecting different cities within the country.

In 2006 – 2008, the airport passed through the most important rehabilitation program in its history, a €77 million investment in a new terminal building and in runway upgrade.

The latest numbers indicate almost 700.000 passengers for the year 2018, going quickly to the million mark in the next year.
